Apparently there are no rental cars available in Trinity Beach from 09-20 January?

Yes, thats right. The nearest availabilty is from the Airport

Why are rental rates so high? Average per day in other places is in the mid $20's!

I tried a few things to lower it, but that's seems on this ocassion , it is the lowest rates we have.

For example, I've rented a Mitsubishi Outlander for 7 days in Gold Coast for a total of $253 including GST.

Just to be sure when comparing rates, to others, that the deal is the same. And Gold Coast and Cairns have different rate structres. For example the very same dates you entered in Gold Coast is $200 cheaper. If you change Cairns to Gold Coast you will see. Gold Coast is always cheaper.
